Convention 2011 Summary

The 2011 event at East Peoria, Illinois, entailed a Friday night Annual Business Meeting, a moment of silence for members that have passed away, a great social, silent auction, room hopping buying-selling-trading, 50/50 tickets to win convention prizes, and the award of the COIPS 28th annual commemorative. Saturday entailed three very interesting and creative show displays, a breath taking Rare Items table, the COIPS Show and Sale, and an in-depth and most informative seminar about pottery fraud and fake stoneware by Mr. Larry Birks. We received a great banquet dinner that evening, followed by a very professionally digitally presented Powerpoint Slide Production by Tom O'Hare, and the evening major auction. Each day a large selection of stoneware was offered for sale by show dealers, and several very rare and unusual stoneware items appeared for sale, both in room sales and the Saturday morning sale and confab, and acquired at the evening auction. Many fine pieces of Illinois stoneware found new homes. Best of all, it was another great time for the membership to meet and visit and at a terrific facility, the Stoney Creek Inn. Special thanks is given to all current and past board members for all their hard work and dedication to the Collectors of Illinois Pottery and Stoneware.

The 2011 COIPS Spring Swap Meet was held in conjunction with the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce "Pottery on the Square Event" in Monmouth, Illinois. COIPS along with members of The Blue and White Club, The Sleepy Eye Club, and The Red Wing Collectors Society attending. Activities included a terrific Swap Meet, pottery throwing demonstrations, an impressive window display of rare pottery pieces, an appraisers tent, and a morning event stoneware auction. The event was well attended on a wonderful cool morning. As usual, several horse trades and nice sales were made between exhibitors as the sun came up. You will want to keep an eye out for this event in 2012 MARK YOUR CALENDAR.

PAST COIPS Monmouth Swap Meets

The COIPS 2008 Spring Swap Meet was held held Saturday, June 28th, 2008in conjunction with the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce "Pottery on the Square Event" on Saturday, June 28th, 2008, in Monmouth, Illinois. COIPS along with members of The Blue and White Club, The Sleepy Eye Club, and The Red Wing Collectors Society attended. Activities included a terrific Swap Meet, pottery throwing demonstrations, impressive window displays of rare pottery pieces, and an appraisers tent. Newer members noted that on this special morning many horse trades and sales were made between exhibitors as the sun cameup. As usual, we experience a real nice turn out. Many special pieces of stoneware now have new homes. A REALLY GREAT GET TOGETHER FOR STONEWARE AND POTTERY COLLECTORS ON A REALLY NICE DAY.
